Charlotte Formeller, MD

Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellow, 2024-2027

Biography

Hometown: Oxford, England, but after moving to the US I grew up in the northwest suburbs of Illinois

Medical School: Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, Chicago Medical School

Residency: Ϲ and Affiliated Hospitals

Research/Scholarly Project: Throughout my fellowship experience, I've explored the vast opportunities within Pediatric Infectious Diseases but have found niche interest in diagnostic antimicrobial stewardship and sustainability. I currently am researching the frequency of viral testing in pediatric patients undergoing bone marrow transplant and also studying the impact of nasal MRSA PCR testing on deescalation of vancomycin. Outside of peds ID, I have a passion for medical education and continue my scholarly work in a training program through the Association of Pediatric Program Directors. Through this program, I am currently studying the undersubscribed pediatric subspecialty fellowship training experience.

Mentors: Dr. Anna Huppler, Dr. Kelly Graff, Dr. Claudia Vicetti, Dr. Michelle Mitchell

Research Interests: Diagnostic stewardship, medical education

Interests and Hobbies: I love spending my time outside the hospital gardening or baking! I'm still trying to figure out the best plants that are resistant to my young children and all the times I forget to water them.

Why did I choose Ϲ for fellowship? I was lucky enough to get to know the Ϲ team during my time as a resident. Throughout the interview process, it was hard to find a reason to leave Ϲ with every opportunity available at our institution. This department is a powerhouse of supportive, approachable, inspiring pediatric infectious disease physicians that I feel so lucky to learn from.

One of the best things about living in Milwaukee? The people! "Midwest nice" is a real thing, everyone cares about you not only as a learner but your life outside of the hospital also. It is also lovely to live in an area where I can affordably live within walking distance of Lake Michigan, a reasonable commute to the hospital, and close to downtown Milwaukee's restaurant scene.
