Biography

Hello! My name is Chris Crosby, and I’m thrilled to be part of the fifth cohort of genetic counseling students at the Ϲ. I graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2022 with a degree in Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development.

My journey toward genetic counseling began in high school, when my biology teacher introduced the career while explaining how lab-based discoveries can directly impact individual lives. The idea of connecting science with service stuck with me and set me on the path I'm on today!

During my time at UMN, I pursued experiences that helped shape my interest in genetic counseling and built a strong foundation of relevant skills. As a research assistant, a natural history museum guide, and a disability resource advocate, I developed abilities in data analysis, science communication, and advocacy.

After graduating, I worked as a genetic counseling assistant in the Genetics Clinic at Children’s Minnesota. This role allowed me to see firsthand how classroom knowledge translates into patient care. As a GCA, I helped coordinate appointments, organize testing, and support the families that our clinic served. My time working at the clinic only deepened my passion for supporting patients and families as they navigate the complexities of genetic healthcare.

Outside of academics, you can usually find me fly-fishing in a nearby stream or lake. Over the past year and a half, I’ve volunteered with Project Healing Waters, where I’ve had the opportunity to share my love of fly-fishing as a way to help veterans heal from trauma. I’m a huge sci-fi nerd and can probably quote the first six Star Wars movies start to finish. I also enjoy reading, biking, and getting together with friends in the fall to cheer on the Packers.
