Biography
Hi! My name is Hope Fan, and I am from Chicago, IL. I graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2024 with a major in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology and a minor in Society in Genetics. I first found out about genetic counseling during my second year of college and just fell everything click for me! During my time at UCLA, I participated in many activities, such as an undergraduate researcher studying human lung stem cells, a HIV testing counselor, the events coordinator at the Genetic Counseling Student Interest Group, and a learning assistant for biochemistry, genetics, and biology.
In the year after graduation, I was a remote Genetic Counseling Assistant Intern at Igenomix, a preimplantation and carrier testing company. During my time at Igenomix, I was able to shadow the genetic counselors, improve my communication skills and ability to stay calm in stressful and urgent situations, and solidified my desire to pursue genetic counseling.
Currently as a master’s student, I am also volunteering for ClinGen on the Gene-Disease Validity committees and am a student ambassador for the United Multiple Sulfatase Deficiency Foundation.
Outside of school, I enjoy reading, walking, watching cdramas, and playing video games! I am so excited to be part of the fifth cohort at Ϲ and am looking forward to the upcoming 21 months!
