Biography
Hi there! My name is Karinne Brochu, and I was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where I spent the majority of my childhood before moving to Green Bay, Wisconsin. In December of 2023, I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay with a BS in Human Biology and an emphasis in Health Science.
During my undergraduate studies, I began my career in healthcare at CVS as a pharmacy technician. There, I strengthened my skills in patient care, communication, and problem-solving as a state-certified pharmacy technician and inventory specialist. In that role, I was responsible for medication dispensing, insurance billing, and vaccine administration, while also overseeing inventory management. I gained invaluable experience advocating for patients by navigating insurance barriers, educating them on medication use, and ensuring timely access to ongoing medical management.
Following my undergraduate studies, I joined the Hemophilia Outreach Center as a genetic counseling assistant. There, I coordinated genetic test requisitions, updated pedigrees, supported patient education, and shadowed a genetic counselor in the clinic. This experience reaffirmed my desire to become a genetic counselor and gave me direct experience within the field. Now, I am eager to expand on these experiences as a student in the 5th MSGC cohort at Ϲ!
In my free time, I enjoy a plethora of hobbies and am nicknamed by friends and family as a “Jack of all trades”. Some of my favorite hobbies include ceramics, jewelry making, crocheting, reading, and dominating strategy-based board games (Shout-out Everdell!). All of these hobbies are thoroughly enjoyed alongside the enriching company of my cat, Toji.
