A Hierarchical Neural Model of Language Meaning Based on an Embodied Representational Code

Presenter:
Leo Fernandino, PhD
Ϲ

Their recent lab studies indicate that language meaning is represented in distributed fashion throughout a network of cortical areas in the temporal, parietal, and frontal lobes known as “default mode network”. The lexical concepts (i.e., word meanings) can be decoded from neural activity in these areas based on a code consisting of a few dozen features, each corresponding to a different sensory-motor or emotional modality) and will argue for a neural model of language meaning that accounts for these findings as well as for those originating from other experimental approaches.
