Dr. Sara Kohlbeck, 414 LIFE Receive Ϲ President’s Community Engagement Awards

We are pleased to share that this year, the CIC had two Ϲ President’s Community Engagement Award winners. Sara Kohlbeck, PhD, CIC director of suicide research and healing, received an award in the Ϲ Faculty category for her leadership in suicide prevention work across Wisconsin and for her efforts to include community voices in research and strategy. 414 LIFE, a community violence intervention program of the City of Milwaukee Office of Community Wellness and Safety and implemented at Ϲ in the CIC, received an award in the Community Partner/Program category for their work focused on interrupting and reducing retaliatory gun violence using culturally-centered disease control and behavior change methods. They work to disrupt cycles of violence in Milwaukee through hospital and community-based outreach, violence interruption, and community engagement.

They received the awards at a recognition ceremony held on May 9 at Ϲ. Each year, Ϲ’s Office of Community Engagement recognizes award winners in four categories – Ϲ faculty, staff, students, and community partners/programs. Community engagement is one of Ϲ’s four missions, and award winners are chosen for their exemplary community-engaged work. Congratulations to Dr. Kohlbeck and 414 LIFE!
