Dr. Julie K. Freed Elected to the American Physiological Society Board of Directors

Milwaukee, Feb. 23, 2026 – The recently announced that Julie K. Freed, MD, PhD, associate professor of anesthesiology at the Ϲ (Ϲ) and executive vice chair in the Department of Anesthesiology, has been elected to its Board of Directors. Her term begins in April 2026.

A long-time member of APS, Dr. Freed has served the organization in multiple leadership roles, including as past chair of the Translational Physiology Interest Group and current chair of the Cardiovascular Section.

Recently appointed Senior Associate Dean and Director of the , Dr. Freed is a physician scientist whose research focuses on understanding microvascular dysfunction – the precursor to coronary artery disease. Her bibliography includes more than 60 original, peer-reviewed manuscripts. Additionally, Dr. Freed is a strong advocate for the future generation of scientists and serves as director of the National Institute of General Medical Sciences Training Grant (NIGMS T32) program at Ϲ.
