What time can guests arrive at The Walter Theater?

Doors to the Theatre will open to guests beginning at 10 a.m. Open seating will be available to all guests on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Does The Walter Theater accommodate ADA seating? 

The Walter Theater is fully handicap accessible and offers multiple wheelchair spaces. Ϲ staff will be happy to help locate that seating for your family members when they arrive.

Do I need tickets for my guests attending the Commencement Ceremony?

No. The Commencement Ceremony is on a first-come, first-serve basis and tickets are not required. The Walter Theater can accommodate over 700 guests.

What is the parking like near The Walter Theater?

Ample parking is available near The Walter Theater. Lots 14 and 11 are closest to the theater.

Who is the Commencement Speaker for 2026?

Michael Hokenson, MD, will give this year's address. Dr. Hokenson serves as a clinical neonatologist and Medical Director of the Children’s Wisconsin Fox Valley NICU. He also holds a faculty appointment at the Ϲ as Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Neonatology.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Hokenson is deeply committed to medical education. He is a full-time member of the Ϲ Admissions Committee and serves as the Physician Liaison for the Ϲ-Green Bay Campus. He is also the Course Director for Ϲ-Green Bay’s pediatric rotations.

Dr. Hokenson completed his residency in Pediatrics at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital (2007) and his fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at Women and Infants Hospital of Rhode Island, affiliated with Brown University (2011). Island, affiliated with Brown University (2011).

Will the Commencement Ceremony be live-streamed?

The entire Ϲ community is invited to lend its support to graduating students by attending the Ceremony in person, or virtually via Ϲ’s YouTube channel.

What time should students arrive at The Walter Theater?

Students should report to The Walter Theatre no later than 9:15 a.m. and should check in with the Events Team immediately upon arrival.

How do I get a cap and gown for the ceremonies?

Student regalia should have been ordered through the Jostens Portal prior to March 28. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please reach out to mcwevents@mcw.edu.

How do I wear my regalia?

Please view the informative regalia video that was created to help show the proper way to wear regalia, and the process of Hooding.

Can I decorate my cap?

No. Graduating students may not alter or decorate their caps, tassels, gowns or hoods, or add other adornments not approved by the Commencement Committee and issued by an Ϲ school or administrative office.

When do I receive my Diploma?

You will receive your official diploma when you cross the stage.

What is the process for photos and videos during the ceremony?

Professional photographers will be taking photos of each graduate at the ceremony. Guests should refrain from approaching the stage to take pictures or video during the ceremony.

How long will the ceremony take?

The commencement ceremony will last approximately one (1) hour.
