STEP-UP Middle School Program
The STEP-UP Middle School Program introduces students to the exciting world of medicine and science through engaging, age-appropriate learning experiences. Designed to build curiosity and foundational knowledge, the program helps students explore health science careers while developing confidence and academic skills that support long-term success.
Program Components & Benefits
Students selected for the program will participate in:
- Interactive sessions with Ϲ medical and graduate students, practicing physicians, and other healthcare professionals
- Engaging, grade-level learning modules aligned with students’ current scientific knowledge
- Hands-on demonstrations in basic biomedical and clinical science topics
- Activities designed to strengthen problem-solving and critical thinking skills

Personal Development
Sessions help students build the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to lead healthy, responsible, and engaged lives.
Academic & Professional Awareness
Students begin exploring goal-setting, study skills, and academic planning that support future success in high school, college, and beyond.
Hands-On Learning
Participants engage in fun, interactive activities connected to biomedical and clinical science concepts.
Preparation for High School
Students receive guidance and resources to support a successful transition to high school.
Parent/Guardian Engagement
- Family involvement is an important part of student success. Parent and guardian sessions:
- Support families in setting academic, college, and career goals with their students
- Provide opportunities to connect with Ϲ staff and faculty
- Share helpful educational resources during orientation

Middle School Application Requirements and Procedure
How Do I Qualify?
Students must demonstrate a strong interest in careers in the health sciences and/or medicine and meet the following criteria:
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Ability to travel to the Ϲ–Milwaukee campus for all scheduled sessions

How to Apply
To complete your application, please submit/upload:
- A completed online application
- Two (2) electronic recommendation forms:
- One from a science teacher (required)
- One from another adult who can speak to your academic potential (e.g., counselor, mentor, or teacher; recommendations from family members and friends will not be considered)
- Submit a copy of your prior year report card or transcript and attendance records
All application materials must be received by the stated deadline.
